서사시 "Omeros," George Lakoff의 "Moral Politics"가 올해

Koelbel 도서관 책 세일에서 산 여섯 권이다.

내가 읽은 그의 소설 "A Perfect Peace"와 "Judas" 그리고

산문집 "Dear Zealots"가 이 책도 읽어보고 싶게 만든다.

 

 

 

 

덴버 대학 School of Hospitality Management 학생들이 과목 실습으로 운영하는 커피숍 "Beans"(아래)에서 이날 포도주 한 잔 했다.

작년 시월 초에 심은 'fir' 나무가 잘 자라는 듯싶더니 올여름 이틀 새에 죽어버렸다. 한 해가 안 되어서 다시 바꿔 심어준 'spruce.'

나는 책을 주로 '도서관의 친구들' 서점 -- 기증받은 책들을 1~4불에 팔아

도서관을 돕는 -- 에서 사게 되는데, 좋은 책들, 그것도 특히 오래전에 나온

책들이 거기서는 자주, 뜻밖에, 눈에 띄어서다. 이렇게 우연히 얻

"Marianne Moore 시 전집"에서 시 한 편, 첫 연만, 읽어본다:

 

Blessed Is The Man

 

who does not sit in the seat of the scoffer --

the man who does not denigrate, depreciate, denunciate;

who is not "characteristically intemperate,"

who does not "excuse, retreat, equivocate; and will be heard."
