205년 전 이날 태어난 앤 브론테는
스물아홉에 폐결핵으로 세상을 떠났다.
오빠와 언니 에밀리가 같은 병으로
돌아간 지 한 해가 안 되어서다.
내가 폐결핵 걸린 게 드러난 건
스물일곱이던 1972년 여름
유학 자격 신체검사에서였다.
한 해 통원치료로 완쾌됐다
스트렙토마이신이 나를 살렸다.
나는 스트렙토마이신이 발견된
다음다음 해에, 그리고 앤은
그보다 123년 전에 태어났다
수많은 기도에도 불구하고나
기도 때문이라고, 목사는 그러려나.
