오늘은 이 아침 내 블로그에서 공짜로 읽으며 즐기는 것들의 일부

흔적을 여기 남겨 놓자.

읽는다.

 

       나는 방심(放心)의 목장에서

Emily Dickinson의 시 "Going to Heaven"을 읽고 나온다.

 

       I'm glad I don't brlieve it,

       For it would stop my breath,

       And I'd like to look a little more

       At such a curious earth!

이어서, 아래에 각각 일부 인용하는,  Chekhov와 Poe에 대한

구절을 읽는다.

 

       It’s the birthday of Anton Chekhov, born in Taganrog,

       Russia (1860). He was in medical school and took up

       writing as a way to support his family. He wrote sketches

       and stories, never spending more than a day on any

       story.... As he earned more from his writing, he didn’t

       give up his medical practice — instead, he treated more

       and more poor patients free of charge.

 

       It was on this day in 1845 that Edgar Allan Poe’s

       poem “The Raven” was published in the New York

       Evening Mirror. It was a huge sensation: Abraham

       Lincoln memorized it, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning

       wrote a fan letter to Poe. He was paid $9 for “The

       Raven,” and it was extensively reprinted without his

       permission, but there was nothing he could do about it.

 

이 기회에, 인터넷에서 찾아낸, Edgar Allan Poe의 시

"The Raven"을 제대로 다 읽어본다.
