     And only where the forest fires have sped, 
       Scorching relentlessly the cool north lands,
     A sweet wild flower lifts its purple head, 
     And, like some gentle spirit sorrow-fed,
       It hides the scars with almost human hands.

 

     And only to the heart that knows of grief,
       Of desolating fire, of human pain,
     There comes some purifying sweet belief, 
     Some fellow-feeling beautiful, if brief.
       And life revives, and blossoms once again.

시는 아직 안 올려져 있다. 어제 일요일엔 그냥 읽었는데, 오늘

아침엔 이 시의 미지막 세 줄이 살갑게 읽힌다. 지난주 한인들

테니스 모임에서의 목금의 언짢은 말들과 토요일의 유쾌한

대화를 떠올려주어서다. And life revives, and blossoms

once again.
