좋은 시를 쓰기는 다만 이따금만 어렵다: 보통 불가능하다. 하지만 스스로에게 좋은 시로 보이는 시를 쓰기는 늘 쉽다. -- Randall Jarrell (John Simon, The Sheep From The Goats: Selected Literary Essays (1989), 101쪽에서 읽은 구절이다. 처음부터 이 책을 제대로 기억해내고서도 확인하는 데에는 결국 다른 세 권의 책도 뒤적여야 했다.)
